Kitchen & Stone Benchtops In Rockhampton

Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Experts

Made-to-measure kitchens, wardrobes and joinery for Rockhampton homes, designed and built in our local workshop and installed by our own team across Central Queensland.

Your benchtop sets the tone of the whole kitchen, so it is worth getting right and getting compliant. We design, supply and install kitchen and stone benchtops for Rockhampton homes using surfaces that meet Australia's current rules. We do not work with engineered, reconstituted or artificial stone, such as Caesarstone-type quartz, because it is now nationally prohibited to manufacture, supply, process or install it. Instead we fit compliant options only: natural granite and marble through licensed stonemasons, porcelain and sintered surfaces, hard-wearing laminate and warm solid timber. Whether you are renovating a tired kitchen in Berserker or fitting out a new build in Gracemere, we help you choose a surface that suits how you cook, your budget and the look you want. Benchtops are installed to sit level and true on cabinetry built by our own team.

Compliant benchtop options we offer

We fit the benchtop surfaces that are allowed under current Australian rules, and we are upfront about what we do not touch. Natural stone such as granite and marble gives a genuine, hard-wearing surface, and we arrange fabrication through licensed stonemasons. Porcelain and sintered surfaces are a popular choice since the engineered stone ban, and we confirm the specific product is a compliant, non-prohibited surface before quoting. Laminate benchtops offer the widest range of colours and patterns at the most accessible price, which suits rental refits and value-focused kitchens. Solid timber brings warmth and works well as a feature or island top, though it needs sealing and care. What we never offer is engineered, reconstituted or artificial stone, because supplying or installing it is now against the law.

How we plan and install your benchtop

It starts with a free measure-and-quote so we can see the kitchen, check the cabinetry and talk through surfaces. We plan the benchtop around your layout, sink, cooktop and any island, and we template accurately so joins and overhangs land where they should. Natural stone and porcelain are fabricated by licensed stonemasons and craned or carried in and set on cabinetry we have built to take the load. The cabinets underneath are built from quality board, with HMR moisture-resistant board used around sinks and wet zones, which matters in Rockhampton's humid climate. Soft-close hinges and runners are fitted as standard on the cabinetry, and we can specify premium hardware such as Blum or Hettich on request. Our own team handles the install and the final level and alignment check.

Why choose us for your benchtop

Getting a benchtop right takes accurate templating, sound cabinetry beneath it and a clear head about compliance, and that is what we bring. With more than 12 years building custom cabinetry, we make sure the cabinets carrying your bench are built and levelled properly before any surface goes down. We give fixed, itemised quotes, so you can see the surface, fabrication and install costs separately. We are fully insured with 20 million dollars in public liability cover, and we stand behind our workmanship, with material and hardware warranties passed on from the supplier. Most importantly, we only quote surfaces that are legal to install, so you are never sold a banned product. That protects both the tradespeople who work with it and you as the homeowner.

What benchtops cost

Benchtop pricing spans a wide range, so any figure here is a guide until we measure. Laminate is the most affordable surface and suits tight budgets and rental refits, while natural stone and porcelain sit well above it once fabrication and installation are counted. The cost drivers are the surface you choose, the size and shape of the run, the number of joins and cut-outs, edge profiles and how the install works on site. An island with a waterfall end and a stone surface costs considerably more than a straight laminate run. Because natural stone is fabricated by licensed stonemasons, that specialist work forms part of the quote. We set it all out in a fixed, itemised quote so you can weigh surfaces against your budget before committing.

Compliant surfaces versus flat-pack tops

Flat-pack kitchens from ranges like Bunnings Kaboodle usually come with a laminate top in set sizes, which can work for a simple, square kitchen on a budget. The limits show in awkward Rockhampton rooms, where fixed sizes leave joins and gaps in the wrong places, and where you want a natural stone or porcelain surface that flat-pack ranges do not fabricate to measure. With the nearest IKEA showroom around 600 kilometres south near Brisbane, that planning help is not local either. We template your bench to the actual kitchen, offer compliant stone, porcelain, laminate and timber, and install with our own team. You get a made-to-measure surface on cabinetry built to carry it, not a self-assembled compromise.

What Our Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Customers Say About Us

The Process

3 Step Process For Your Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Needs

Free Measure, Quote and Design

We start with a free, no-obligation visit to measure your space and talk through how you want it to work. Because older Rockhampton homes and Queenslander walls are rarely square, measuring on site is the only way to get it right. We then prepare a clear design and a written quote, so you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs. Nothing is built until you are happy with the plan.

Built in Our Local Workshop

Once your design is approved, your cabinets are made to measure in our Central Queensland workshop. We build with quality carcase materials, including HMR moisture-resistant board for kitchens, laundries and vanities that suit our humid climate. Soft-close hinges and drawer runners are fitted as standard, with quality hardware such as Blum or Hettich. Everything is prepared and checked before it leaves the workshop for install.

Professional Installation

Our own team delivers and installs your cabinetry, so the crew who built it also fits it. We work cleanly and carefully around your home, whether it is a full kitchen in Norman Gardens or a built-in wardrobe in Frenchville. Benchtops, doors and drawers are aligned and adjusted on the day for a proper finish. We tidy up before we leave and make sure you are happy with the result.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our Kitchen & Stone Benchtops In Rockhampton

Do you make or install engineered or Caesarstone-type benchtops?

No, we do not, and this is not a preference, it is the law. From 1 July 2024 it became an offence for a business to manufacture, supply, process or install engineered, reconstituted or artificial stone benchtops, panels or slabs, and a ban on importing them followed from 1 January 2025. The prohibition responds to the serious silicosis risk from the crystalline silica dust these products create. We fit compliant surfaces only, so we can offer you natural granite or marble, porcelain or sintered stone, laminate or solid timber instead.

What benchtop should I choose for a Rockhampton kitchen renovation?

It depends on your budget, how you cook and the look you want. Laminate gives you the widest colour range at the lowest price and suits value-focused refits, including rentals in North Rocky and Gracemere. Natural stone such as granite offers a genuine, hard-wearing surface, while porcelain is a durable modern option that has grown popular since the engineered stone ban. We talk you through the trade-offs at the free quote so you can pick with confidence.

Is porcelain a legal alternative to engineered stone?

Porcelain and sintered surfaces are generally a compliant choice, and they have become a common replacement for banned engineered stone. That said, we always confirm the specific product is a compliant, non-prohibited surface with the supplier before we quote it, rather than assuming. It gives you a hard-wearing, heat-tolerant top with a stone-like look. We are happy to show you options that meet the current rules.

Who fabricates the natural stone?

Natural stone benchtops such as granite and marble are cut and fabricated by licensed stonemasons, and we coordinate that as part of the job. We build and level the cabinetry that carries the bench, template the surface accurately and manage the install with our own team. This keeps one point of contact for you while the specialist stonework is done by the right trade. The fabrication cost is set out clearly in your itemised quote.

Will the cabinets under my benchtop cope with the humidity?

We build the cabinetry carrying your bench from quality board and use HMR moisture-resistant board around sinks and wet zones, which helps it handle Central Queensland's humid summers. Moisture-resistant is not the same as waterproof, so we seal edges properly and rely on sound construction rather than any material being indestructible. A well-built, well-ventilated cabinet base holds up far better over time. We build the base to carry the weight of stone or porcelain safely.

Can you replace just the benchtop in a new-build or rental kitchen?

Often yes, provided the existing cabinets are sound and level enough to carry a new surface. In newer Gracemere and Norman Gardens builds, or a tidy rental, swapping a dated top for a fresh compliant surface can lift the kitchen without a full rebuild. We check the cabinetry first and tell you honestly if it needs attention before a new bench goes on. If the carcasses are failing, we will say so rather than set stone on a weak base.
